Duncan is currently one semester away from completing a bachelor of music degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.  He is an experienced teacher with all levels of students and thoughtfully tailors his instruction to assist in the development of each individual student’s musical identity and goals.  Duncan’s insights are drawn from many years of playing experience and he has an extensive viewpoint to share about a wide range of musical topics, such as purposeful practicing, inspired improvising, playing without fear, instrumental technique, chopping and rhythm playing, innovation versus tradition, the direction of music in our culture, the life of the musician and the meaning and responsibility of being an artist etc.  Duncan is available to teach group and private lessons on:


Jazz and improvisation -all levels and instruments

Old time, Bluegrass or Irish/Celtic fiddle styles -all levels

Beginning and intermediate classical violin

Music theory and composition -all levels and instruments


Duncan has been a faculty instructor at the Christian Howes Creative Strings Workshop in Columbus, OH, the Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, NC, and at Tristan and Tashina Clarridge’s camp at Mt. Shasta, CA.  He currently accepts private students at reasonable rates in the Boston area and worldwide over Skype.  He also accepts commissions to travel and teach group workshops.  For more information and rates please contact info@duncanwickel.com
